Parents who have their baby dedicated to God are promising to do everything they can do to raise that child in a godly way until they become old enough to decide on their own to follow God.

Children are a gift from God.  A baby dedication is the act of giving back to God the gift he has given you as parents.  When you have your child dedicated, you will be making a solemn promise, to God and all that attend, to raise your child as though it were God's child.  You and the appointed God-parents promise to be Christian role-models and show them a Christian lifestyle worshiping with a church family regularly. 

A baby dedication is an act of thanksgiving, trust, worship and commitment from the parents.  It means you are handing your child over to God to do with as He pleases.  As parents you signify your own personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.  You also show that you want to see God's will carried out in your child's life.  Having your child dedicated to the Lord means that by example you will teach them to live a holy life and to appreciate the good things God has given us.  You are promising to give your child encouragement to become the well-rounded Christian that God would like them to be.

The joy of Jesus' birth was shared with the people of God in the church.  Joseph and Mary brought Jesus to the temple to be presented to God.  Long before our time godly parents presented their children to God.  Parents are still bringing their children to God asking for His blessing.
